The Alcohol Breath Tester is a sensitive scientific instrument employing computer semiconductor technology to convert breath alcohol content to equivalent blood alcohol content (BAC) within seconds at five (5) progressive key concentration levels denoted by an easily read, colour coded LED display on the breathalyser. 

The Keyring Breathalyser employs the recently developed and most advanced MEMS gas sensor. ( MEMS stand for Micro Electro Mechanical Systems.) MEMS is a class of systems that are physically small. These system technologies are miniaturized systems, which comprise sensor, actuators and electronic functions

Acrivate the breathalyser throughthe thumb switch.  After a brief internal circuitry self test routine, blow through the mouthpiece and the results are converted and read within seconds colour LED lamp lights according to the chart below.

Accuracy
  • The Breathalyser by Safe Drive has been tested in many countries for accuracy including German standard 'TUV' , and has been awarded the European CE mark of quality.
  • Safe-Drive Breathalysers retain accurate calibration for a minimum of 6 months when used every day and is maintained for much longer periods when used infrequently.The breathalyser can be re-calibrated by the user.

  • Manafactures of Safe Drive Breathalyser claim the accuracy to be 90% or better in most situations.

  • Safe-Drive will notify you if the battery is low, the operation light will become red (instead of green) and will cease to function until a new battery is installed.

Limitations

  • Any device measuring a tolerance of 0.01 of blood alcohol concentration from a breath is not 100% accurate, and is subject to variation. Even the best units are not sufficient for a conviction or to determine if you are safe to drive, only an actual blood test is 100% accurate.

  • The unit may not clear (all indicators extinguish) if the ambient air is contaminated, such as a smoky bar. Results will not be accurate when all indicator lights are not extinguished.

  • If the breathalyser sensor loses its accurate calibration (such as if dropped hard, damaged or exposed to excess heat or moisture) it will register a very high reading and has ceased reliable operation.

    The breathalser must not be used to determine if the user is fit to drive, it is dangerous to Drink and Drive.

 

Allow at least 20 minutes after consuming alcohol before using the blood alcohol detector.  This ensures the breath sample is taken from your lungs, not from the alcohol in your mouth, which may result in a higher reading.
